Department of Statistics Faculty Participate in JSM 2017
Several members of the Department of Statistics traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to participate in the 2017 Joint Statistical Meetings, one of the largest gatherings of statisticians in the world. Between July 30 and August 3, 2017, faculty members Mark Culp, Ken Ryan, Erin Leatherman, and Stacey Culp joined more than 6,000 attendees at the Baltimore Convention Center. Ken Ryan presented joint work with Mark Culp entitled "On Data Integration Problems with Manifolds" in a session sponsored by the Section on Statistical Computing, and Erin Leatherman's talk "Designing Computer Experiments to Maximize Prediction Accuracy" was featured in a session sponsored by the Section on Bayesian Statistical Science. Faculty attended several additional sessions and networked with colleagues in industry and academia. Ken Ryan, who serves as an Associate Editor of Technometrics, participated in an editorial meeting and discussed the connections between the journal's focus on statistics in engineering science and his experiences teaching WVU's Advanced Analysis of Engineering Data course (IENG 314).
