Two Department of Statistics Faculty Visit Capitol Hill

Professor Mark Culp and Assistant Professor Stacey Culp traveled to Washington, D.C. on May 16, 2017 as representatives of the American Statistical Association to participate in the 23rd Annual Coalition for National Science Funding Congressional Exhibition.  Mark and Stacey visited the offices of Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore-Capito and Representatives David McKinley, Alex Mooney, and Evan Jenkins to discuss the impact of scientific research at WVU and in West Virginia and to advocate for sustained NSF funding.  Mark, principal investigator of a National Science Foundation grant entitled, "CAREER: Statistical Methodology in Multi-view Learning with Large Data" presented his research with emphasis on machine learning solutions to big data problems in biometrics and drug discovery to an audience of scientists and congressional representatives.
